We are in the heart of oyster season so there is no time like the present to enjoy them . So off to the annual land a sea event at the Wellwood we go. Chesapeake Bay Oysters are a delicacy and provide a perfect opportunity to eat local with friends and eat well. We are lucky and love living in the Delmarva Peninsula or simply Delmarva, it is a large peninsula on the East Coast , occupied by most of Delaware as well as the Eastern Shore of Maryland and the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Although called a peninsula, it is technically an island after the digging of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. The Wellwood is located in Historic Charlestown, Maryland and is a convenient one hour out of Baltimore and Philadelphia, and 35 minutes from Delaware. The Historic Wellwood is a beautiful water view venue that delivers elegant dining . The land and sea event is a all you can eat buffet we attend each year... So back to the Oysters . I know what a lot of people are thinking. How do you eat them? They look intimidating but once I tried one for myself I was hooked. Slurping is the wrong way to do it.....If you’ve never tried one, have your first one naked. I won’t even recommend lemon for your first. Any accoutrement will change the flavor and make it hard for your palate to know exactly what the oyster tastes like. Then proceed to the accoutrement...Otherwise known as sauces and condiments. Experiment whenever you can... Try a squeeze lemon...Rumor has it that lemon was originally used on raw oysters as a way to prove that it was shucked live, fresh, and served in its own shell. The acid was supposed to make the live oyster “quiver,” as proof it was just shucked . I Haven't actually seen this though. PLEASE no cocktail sauce. Cocktail sauce consists of two ingredients , horseradish and ketchup. Horseradish is great, but ketchup has no business on an oyster. This tradition I think began as a way to mask the scent and taste of bad oysters. Would you put ketchup on any fresh seafood? Maybe if it's fried.....Elegantly pour it in your mouth, then chew, because like a fine wine, an oyster must be aerated. Its flavor is just as much in the meat as the "liquor", the real flavors will be released as you break up those cells. Of all the ways to eat oysters, it turns out slurping is the wrong way to do it. Bon Appetit polled several oyster chefs who say that real oyster enjoyment happens when you treat it like wine: smell it first, pour it into your mouth with its “liquor,” or juice, and chew two-to-three times....What do you think? HEY, don't forget the wine. I like a dry wine , red or white . Here are a few pictures of the event .
Another happy bride to be Lindsey ...Nathan her fiancé selected a custom Sidney Thomas design ring.
Who knew that a girly girl like me would cry like a baby about a book about car racing , but I did...
My sister and her husband gave me a book for Christmas and just like a lot of people who work in retail ,it got put away till the season was over.
Well winter became spring and I never got around to reading it till summer, sorry Jim O. Well let me tell you I thought to myself of all the books to give me why a book about car racing ? Well not realizing they recently met Jim O and read the book themselves they had feel in love and they wanted to share it with me. So I sat down to read and surprise right away I start to realize why they wanted me to read it. It is a life lesson about life...and I needed that more than I knew. As I'm reading it I had to keep putting it down because I was starting to relate with getting so tied up in our lives we forget to live it. Yes ! so tied up in ourselves and work we ignore the things that are really important.
So Before I give away Jim O's story let me tell you I met this man recently and he is real , very real and yes he made me of all people fall in ❤️with NHRA racing . Now yes I sit infront of the Tv and cheer just like my husband does with football and I always thought he was crazy .
I think the book is selling on Amazon and maybe my sister has another copy not sure . but anyway get the book how ever you can , think outside the box and fall in love with car racing too or just read a inspiring book and start living life again , living with the things you love . what ever works for you. * side note I was not compensated in any way for my review.
hanging out in the kallitta Motorsports hospitality tent with my niece ❤️watching Doug Kallitta pit crew getting ready for the next race rebuilding their car. Amazing ! never knew they break it down and rebuild each time it races.
Platinum is a gorgeous white precious metal with incredible heft and density. This metal holds diamonds very securely (it shifts and bends instead of cracking or breaking) and it does not lose metal when it scratches. It feels different, too, because it is heavier, giving a feel of luxury. If you hold a platinum and a gold ring in separate hands you will feel the difference. Platinum will stay white for its lifetime. Over time, with everyday wear, platinum jewelry gains a beautiful patina which gives it a unique character.
"The Symphony collection is created to be just that—a symphony. Roberto orchestrated an array of modern and delicate pieces to choose from- bangles, rings and necklaces-for you to stack and layer into a beautiful harmony all your own". Roberto Coin
when we received this collection in we started creating looks immediately. What fun.. All of the pieces in the collection have a great weight to them and stack beautifully. Notice the clasp pictured above. Who wouldn't love a clasp that closed on it own because of the magnet imbedded in the 18kt gold. Lovely and easy to wear..,
Swiss watches ...women need to discover the masterpieces they are ....The Ballon Bleu is a relatively recent creation from Cartier coming in a round case with a loop over the crown to create a more rounded, curvy shape. A large circle of women have an appreciation for fine art and luxury products because of the quality and detail to these hand crafted items and we surround ourselves with them. Why do we not see a Swiss timepiece in the same way? I believe that it is because they have no idea what goes into crafting these masterpieces. Think about this ! Look at a automatic watch that is hand assembled with hundreds of working parts and those parts work together with no power source! YES, Just those high quality parts working together with a rotor that winds it as you move your wrist ! It can take a highly trained watchmaker sometimes a year to assemble this masterpiece and if we maintain it and love it , it will last generations . Pretty cool isn't it?We drive a car that needs a power source but not our watch if we are lucky enough to own one. Can I say it again ? If I'm going to have just one and hand it down for generations I want a masterpiece...How about you?Cartier produces the Ballon Bleu in a range of sizes and with different movements including both quartz and automatic. The Ballon Bleu Medium as pictured here is available in steel s36.6mm and that is what I prefer. Funny that 36mm wide was the size of a men’s watch in my fathers generation, but today 36mm wide watches are typically worn by women, as men tend to wear larger watches today, sized at 40mm and above. This particular Ballon Bleu de Cartier is a modest model in the collection. It comes with and without any diamonds and the quartz movement is priced less than the automatic models. This is probably the model that the classic ladies tends to wear because she is not too flashy in how she dresses, and yet the elegant timelessness of the watch and brand does suit her style overall, being timeless and stately. Non flashy watches communicate similar values about the wearer.❤️️

Our journey to our little cottage.....
This is how living simply , with only the things I love began...
If I think of how I find myself here right now , I will have to go back a little to the year 2000. I was already married but I found myself like many young women wanting to be successful on my own , so when I landed my dream position at J.E.Caldwell Jewelers in Delaware I was a step closer. Then in 2005 would be the big dream house on the Chesapeake bay. We had arrived! Right? Not really...this is were the stress began. Now I worried that I need to be more successful to keep up. Working more hours and not enjoying all the things we aquired. Then in 2008 the economy crashed and my life hit a all time stress level. Just like a lot of people I lost my position I loved because we went out of business . How do I keep up now...I worked more hours and added over a 2 hour commute to my already stressed out life. I made myself sick with worry that it was changing me physically and mentally. Now we had to maintain all the things we had and still we were not enjoying them. I had become someone I didn't recognize . I knew right then that I needed to do something to stop this stress. So with the support of my husband this is were the real story begins ....
I don't want to use the word "eliminate" when referring to things that were in my life, I think of it as "choosing" what was real and made me happy. This is harder then it sounds . My career was first on the list , I found that I had excepted a " job " after J.E.Calwell's closed and needed my career back. It's funny about how life comes back around to were you are meant to be. Sidney Thomas Jewelers called me and asked me if my sales team and myself were interested in reopening the old J.E. Caldwel's location as a Sidney Thomas store and now I enjoy getting up in the morning and starting my day. Next my attitude ! I was negative not of just myself but of everyone around me. I can only blame myself for this not anyone else , I needed to just walk away from everyone's vision of who I needed to be to them and just be true to myself. Fast forward to this year. The Dream house was put up for sale. I was planning on this being the hardest part , that was what I thought ...but the next step was the hardest.......packing up all the STUFF! We started trying to decide what to move to our new home long before we actually decided on a new address. Let me tell you we acquired alot over the 26 years we had been married . When I say a lot, I mean TONS OF STUFF...no joke.
We decided that we would look for a new forever home that would be half the size of ours. I wanted 800 square foot and my husband thought I was crazy, we compromised on 1450. We looked at a lot of homes and fell in love with our cottage the moment we looked at it. I actually stalked it for many months. So half of our things had to find a new home. It took me 7 months to decide on what I loved the most. It did help that the family that purchased our home wanted most of our furniture, it still didn't all fit in the end and I'm still trying to make some tough decisions. I am happy that all of the things I let go of found loving homes with people that will cherish it. I didn't want my 1 ton of stuff to fill up more of our local landfill. In the end I must tell you we are definitely happier with living simply with only the things that as a couple decided that we love. We are in LOVE with our new little cottage on the bay. We have less space to live in,but spend more time with each other.
We have found we have more with less. My hope in sharing all that I love with you , will keep me on this positive track that my life is on now. So thank you for going on this journey with me. I would love to hear what makes you happy, so maybe I can find some new things too.
I wanted to show a little personality with this initial ring in sterling silver. I went with a brushed oval top so that I could wear everyday with out worry's of it showing scratches, Engraved with a single letter "R". I wear the ring with jeans and a simple silver bangle bracelet or at work with a simple diamond tennis bracelet. I get more compliments , considering that it is one of the inexpensive items I own it definitely is CLASSIC AND TIMELESS... Love, love , love...
Ladies! Who wouldn't want to receive this black box... Confession: I wanted my first blog to be a eye catching item that would make any women fall in love with it immediately ! So I choose designer Henri Daussi to start with . The moment I laid my eyes on this collection I was done for life. Yummy don't you think ?
I love this designer so much that I decided to have Henri Daussi custom make a ring for my diamond. What do you think?
Hello...I'm Rene trying to live my life simply with only the things that I love , and make my heart sing .....
