I keep hearing that gray is the new blonde ....really ! Here we go again .... I have found some thing new to introduce into my new life style of "only living with what I love" and of course I will have to be obsessed with it.... you know "chew" on it for a while. You laugh, if you only knew! First I had to talk to everyone, YES , everyone and get their thoughts on it. Then experiment, and we know how that goes for someone that is slightly a perfectionist....OK, SO I'M MORE THEN A SLIGHT PERFECTIONIST! But anyway, follow along if you can. Of course I wanted to snap my fingers and be thru the whole process. I wanted to embrace going grey a long time ago but unfortunately it takes a long time, depending on your hair length. Most women go back to dyeing their hair because of that in between stage. You know what I'm talking about......and I'm way to vain for that! That is why growing it out was out of the question . I needed to feel better about the transition to gray. Hello.......Instant gratification people, so off to the salon I go. Standing in the hair salon, I had to keep Remembering it isn’t the colour that will make you look old, it's the growing it out transition that does! I had to figure this out...let's get it done girl . I decided to do lo-lites and/or hi-lites foils to soften my look . I had to be sure my hair dresser Charlene used super thin sections, It may not have been possible to do that with foils on my own . My experience is that not every salon knows how to use the cap anymore. Am I showing my age...LOL. Also, I didn't want too many foils or it will be just like I dyed my whole head again and I would have to start from the beginning. I didn't want my dyed hair color end up brassy , so that is why I didn't attempt this on my own. If you think you want to attempt it yourself, What you can do is go with an ash violet toner. I know your saying WHAT? It only needs to be applied to the dyed hair for approximately 20 minutes. This will take away that brassy tone of your previously dyed hair.
So now each time I need to color in the gray growth , I will add more and more platinum highlights . My guess is that it will take me about a year before this process will be done. Gray hair is course so condition......condition.....condition, it made my grey hair look shiny as though they are highlights that I had added. Plus my hair feels great! I would suggest to leave in the conditioner for half an hour. Well wish me luck that I keep up this journey, because I think it will lead to a lot less maintenance and that means more time for the fun things . I hope these tips will help you in the process to transitioning to your natural gray hair. Let me know if you have any other suggestions that will help other women during their journey to embrace their grey! Time to call Charlene to schedule my next appointment .....lol❤️

I have the same dilemna. I have been wanting to stop coloring but dread that transition. I'll have to talk to my hairdresser about going the "lo-lights" way.
