Elvis Presley’s timepiece has collectors all shook up.....
An Omega timepiece belonging to Elvis Presley has been sold for $1.8 million, the rumor is that it is the highest price ever paid for a watch made by the company.
The sale established Omega as one of the most desirable brands in the increasingly heated market for rare vintage watches. The Phillips auction house is known for achieving the highest prices for timepieces with case back stories.
The Elvis Omega is being described as the “most historically significant Elvis Presley-owned watch to ever appear on the market.”
The story of this 18ct white gold wristwatch is that it was presented to Elvis by RCA Records in February 1961, at a charity lunch to celebrate his 75 million records sold worldwide.
The 33 mm timepiece without a doubt is small in size in today’s standards for men, it is a manually-wound Omega calibre 510, and features 44 brilliant cut diamonds surrounding the bezel.
The caseback is engraved with the words: “To Elvis, 75 Million Records, RCA Victor, 12-25-60.”

What the heck is a PARTI-SAPPHIRE?
Polychrome Sapphire in the rough.
A would be amateur prospector unearthed a rare 141-carat “parti-colored” sapphire in the Gemfields region of Queensland, Australia, and could fetch them at least $23,000 . The unusual stone sometimes known as “polychrome sapphire”, displays a range of colors, from blue to green to yellow.
Australia was a leader in sapphire production for over 100 years, peaking in the 1980s. Today, if you are looking for a little adventure and an opportunity to find a gemstone of your own this is the place for you!
A majority of the commercial mining operations have closed down, but some of the once-rich territory is open for Amateur prospectors to try “specking” , which consists of walking through the bush looking on the ground. What you would be looking for is any small hint of sparkle, where the sun may catch the edge of a partly submerged gem.
You too could be a lucky specker. “It was all about being in the right place at the right time,” Central Highlands Tourism Development Officer Peter Grigg noted on the Discover Central Highlands Facebook page.
According to Grigg, the local resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, was wandering through the Reward fossicking area, kicking over a few stones when, much to his surprise, he turned over the “find of a lifetime.”
“There had been considerable rain a week or so before, and there it was lying tantalizingly within reach on the surface of the ground,” Grigg wrote.
Grigg explained that the 141-carat sapphire is crystal clear and in its current rough form is likely to fetch upwards of AUD $30,000 ($23,046).
“Parti-colored” sapphires can display two or three distinctive colors, depending on the trace elements present when the crystal originally formed. The transition from one color to another in a gemstones is called “zoning.”
“I find it amazing that after 100-plus years of people scratching around in the ground at the Sapphire Gemfields, stones of this quality continually pop up,” Grigg added.
Tourists and amateur prospectors are more likely to visit the Gemfields during the cooler months from March through September.
“It is well worth the trip, because you never know your luck,” Grigg told the Gladstone Observer. “One thing, though, no one will ever find a sapphire sitting on their couch at home.”

...Omega's Dark Side of the moon on leather strap. Retail price $12,000.00.....
The OMEGA Watch Collection Started by it's forerunner , La Generale Watch Co, was founded at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1848 by Louis Brandt, who assembled key-wound precision pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen. He sold his watches from Italy to Scandinavia by way of England, his chief market. In 1894, his two sons Louis-Paul and César developed a revolutionary in-house manufacturing and total production control system that allowed component parts to be interchangeable. Watches developed with these techniques were marketed under the Omega brand of La Generale Watch Co. OMEGA holds a history unlike any other watch brand.

Another world record has been set in the watch world!
The most iconic watch was only set to sell for 1 million dollars !
The original Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytona watch the late actor personally wore since 1984 was thought to be lost. He had started to wear another Rolex Daytona, and the original watch was never seen in public again.
It reserviced this Spring in the possession of Newman’s daughter’s ex-boyfriend, James Cox. To many watch intusiist it is the most important vintage watch.....
It is said that Cox's story of how he came to posses the watch is that Newman once asked him what time it was and he told him he didn’t know, because at the time he didn’t even own a watch. Newman took off the Daytona and said, “Here, here’s a watch.....keep it wound and it will tell pretty good time.”
Auction house Phillips sold the watch as the centerpiece of its New York Watch auction on Oct. 26. Of course to the highest bidder! That was one high bid......
The reference 6239 Rolex is fitted with an “exotic” dial , the first and only “exotic” dial Daytona Newman wore. Sales notes on the timepiece report is that the watch has been well preserved by Cox.
On the back of the watch is the inscription, “DRIVE CAREFULLY ME,” which was brainstormed by the witty Woodward.
Experts think it was likely purchased at Tiffany & Co. in New York because of the Serial number engraved on it. Its dial “has developed a creamy, warm patina that is consistent with its age,” according to the notes.
The watch was sold with a signed letter written by Paul Newman’s daughter, Nell Newman, documenting its provenance and her support of its sale. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Nell Newman Foundation and Newman’s Own Foundation, in support of Paul Newman’s philanthropic initiatives.
